The acids in a chemical peel penetrate deep into the skin and stimulate collagen and elastin to help smooth fine lines and wrinkles without the need for intense peeling. Chemical peels are typically a single acid or combination of acids such as Salicylic, Glycolic, Malic, Lactic and Retinoic acid. These are just some of the types of solutions used, there are many types of acids used in different combinations and strengths to achieve different results.
Peels are most effective in a series of treatments spaced about one month apart. Despite the name, you do not have to peel in order to have a good result from a chemical peel. There are chemical peels such as Trichloroacetic acid and Phenol peels which are much deeper level peels and are performed by a physician. I recommend chemical peels to people who would like to renew there skin while addressing some skin issues but do not want the downtime of a laser procedure. In our office we have three different levels of chemical peels to address different skin conditions and needs.
All of our peels require only minimal or no downtime. Call us today at or click the button below to request an appointment! Even though clients report that their skin looks noticeably brighter, more even and smoother after only one treatment, a series of treatments is recommended for long-term results. At Forme Spa we have a range of peels including salicylic, glycolic, and lactic at varying strengths. You may experience some superficial flaking but certainly not a full face shed like a snake.
Valid to 31 July Learn more here. January 7th, Both microdermabrasion and a skin peel do the same thing — exfoliate the skin. The main difference between microdermabrasion and chemical peels is that they are two different types of exfoliation: microdermabrasion is a physical exfoliation that uses friction, while chemical peels are a chemical exfoliation dissolving the dead skin cells.
This then promotes the healthy growth of new skin cells improves skin tone and texture; helps reduce superficial scars; minimizes blotchy skin; and fights off unwanted signs of aging.
Microdermabrasion forces a re-arrangement in the innermost layer of the epidermis by propelling some adhesive crystals on your skin. There is no particular age restriction for microdermabrasion. But people below 12 years and above 70 years may face some difficulties. It targets poor skin tone, acne marks, scars, melasma and other signs of ageing such as wrinkles, fine lines, age spots etc.
It is a handpiece with a diamond tip to clean off the dead skin cells from your skin. This is a new process where a dermatologist uses a combination of crystal spray and dermal infusion.
Chemical peels are usually used to treat skin ageing signs like deeper wrinkles, pigmentation, age spots, scars, melasma scars etc. Microdermabrasion gives your skin a chance to rejuvenate and get rid of discoloured skin tone, dark spots, age spots, scars, melasma, wrinkles and fine lines. First, the dermatologist will clean your face and give you goggles to protect your eyes.
The dermatologist may give you topical anesthesia to numb the area. Then they would apply the chemical formulation. For deep peel procedure, dermatologists monitor the heart rate for safety reasons. Your skin starts peeling off after hours of the actual procedure. It is not mandatory to use anesthesia before the procedure. A handpiece is used to propel abrasive crystals on your skin and remove the top layer. After the procedure, the dermatologist will apply moisturizer on your skin. Chemical peels are made of glycolic acid , trichloroacetic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid etc.
Light or superficial chemical peels do not take much time. But medium and deep chemical peel procedure can take 30 to 90 minutes to finish. Microdermabrasion on the face takes 35 to 45 minutes to finish and for the neck, it may take 20 minutes approximately. A chemical peel may cause a stinging sensation but a cooling compress would solve the issue. Deep peeling procedures may require pain medication. It should not cause pain if the procedure is performed carefully.
You may only have some mild side effects. It takes 5 to 7 days time for your skin to heal from the chemical peeling procedure. Microdermabrasion requires a very short healing time.
